Illustration about organ donation

Illustration for 'De Correspondent' about the altruistic deed of donating an organ for a stranger.
The article refers to the biblical story of the good samaritan. This is why the donor is depicted in the style of a stained glass window.
Here is a link to the article: LINK

Cowboy

I wanted to try something more cartoony... for some reason blogger darkens the images... Does anybody know why this is?

Pop-up house

I created these two concepts of Hansl and Gretl's hous as a popup book for a pitch. They were based on the two illustrations below. I was really fun to visualise this concept. The book however will probably not be made, since it is used merely to sell a concept.

The Boston Beard

I don't know much about baseball, but visually I was intrigued by the idea of baseball players growing their beards. This is not a specific player, just an imaginative character

Gregory Porter

Yesterday I went to a concert of the great jazz singer Gregory Porter. Here's my impression of him singing. Listen to his great music here: LINK

CTNX 2013

From november 15 - 17 the annual CTN animation expo will be held in Burbank CA.
This year I will be attending again, sharing a booth with my buddy Edwin Rhemrev. Stop by and say hi at our booth T103.
Also I will be speaking at this years event. The title of my lecture is '5 principles that helped me become a better artist'. During my work as a freelance illustrator for over ten years, working on many different kinds of illustration work, ranging from caricatures and character designs to children's books and editorial illustrations, I learned a lot about how these different fields of illustration are connected. Often the same fundamentals, the same creative process and the same knowledge is needed to create a piece of art. In this talk I will go into five principles that helped me a lot improving my art.
I look forward to meeting you there!

Caricatures

A few years back I did this fun job for a communication agency. They asked me to do a few caricatures of them, and place these caricatures into several settings. The were going to be used in a presentation.
For the Bonny and Cleyde version I was asked to use the reference litterally. The other illustrations were based on subjects from the lecture.

Character sketches

In Russia I met Pedro Conti (LINK to his website) He's a great 3D designer, and I couldn't resist doing some sketches based on his pirate design.

Plein air 'round the corner

I had an hour yesterday to do a quick oil sketch on a deserted and overgrown contruction site down the block.

I'm working on this awesome project. The story for this children's book was written by the greatTjibbe Veldkamp. It is incredibly funny, and I'm a blast working on the illustrations. Now this is really a book that I'd love to see published overseas. I get asked a lot about my books in the USA. The thing is...they are not published in the USA. So if any of you can get me in touch with a good publisher in the USA, who'd be interested in an incredibly funny childrens book, please send me a message.
